Things haven’t been going so well for The Ultra Music Festival, as headliner Avicii has cancelled his appearance at the event after being hospitalized for gall bladder.
His publicist said in a statement on Friday night that doctors will remove his gall bladder on Saturday and that he hopes to be fully recovered when he tours the U.S. next month.
Canadian Deadmau5 will be stepping in for the Swedish DJ during the Miami event. And Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) thanked his fans for their support on his Facebook page.
“My fans know that I have had issues in the past with my stomach and pancreatitis…I woke up on Wednesday morning with serious pain but I flew to Miami anyway, hoping that it would go away. The pain was still there when I landed so I went straight to hospital. I was treated and left later that night. Unfortunately, the pain came back yesterday afternoon and I returned to the hospital where they admitted me to stay overnight.”
But Avicii’s cancellation wasn’t the only thing that went wrong during the event.
Several hundred of those in attendance were hurt last night with 15 needing to be hospitalized for serious injuries.
According to The Miami New Times, one female security guard is currently suffering from sever head trauma and a broken leg after fans knocked her down as they were rushing a gate.
Many other fans were treated for various other things like drug overdoes and injuries from dancing such as cuts and bruises. There were also 22 arrests made last night by Miami Police.
The Ultra Music Festival is an annual event that feature major dance and EDM acts like Tiesto, Zedd and Krewella. It ends March 30.
